Mulan! With the live-action Cinderella in the theatres and the live-action Beauty & The Beast in the works, Disney has announced Mulan will be the next cartoon converted for the big screen.

The 1998 animated film was centred on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the female warrior and so is the script by writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek (who have been writing together since high school!). Chris Bender and J.C. Spink have been announced to produce.

Production is expected to start later this year but no casting details or release date have been announced. Fans of actress Ming-Na Wen, who dide the voice Mulan in the cartoon, are campaigning for her to get the role though.

Wen is currently starring in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but has asked that fans send the messages straight to Disney instead of tweeting her.

“Wow, so many tweets to @Disney announcement for a live-action #Mulan. Thank U4 wanting me 2B in the film! Tweet @DisneyPictures about it! xo.”

Makes sense! They’re the ones that will be hiring!

Coming up for Disney they’ll release a new version of The Jungle Book, the sequel to Alice in Wonderland in 2016, and the live action version of Beauty & The Beast hits theaters on March 17, 2017

Another announcement I missed is that Tim Burton is at the front of a live-action reimagining of Dumbo. Yup, the cartoon about the elephant released back in 1941. Not exactly sure what a live-action of zoo animals will look like but with Tim Burton involved, it will probably involve Johnny Depp!
