Canada Day Celebrations Around Winnipeg!

You definitely can’t say there’s nothing to do on Canada Day if you live in Winnipeg! Here’s a list of just a few of the big events you might want to check out!

Assiniboine Park

Where: The Lyric Stage, Assiniboine Park

When: 1:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.

What’s Shaking: A Canada Day tradition for many, Assiniboine Park will once again be a great place to celebrate Canada Day!There will be live music on the Lyric stage, family-friendly activities (including a bouncy castle) in the field surrounding the stage. The party starts at 1:00 with official opening ceremonies at 3:30 p.m. followed by free birthday cake! The fireworks display will dazzle the night sky starting around 10:40 p.m.

Note: Take advantage of the park and ride system! Park your vehicle at Canadian Mennonite University, Asper Jeish Community Campus, Seasons of Tuxedo, St. Paul’s High School, or Shaftesbury School and enjoy free shuttle service between noon and midnight.

Canada’s Largest Living Flag

Where: Goldeyes Park

When: 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m.

What’s Shaking: Help set a record this year and be part of the largest, living, Canadian flag in the country! You can help the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ make Canada’s largest living flag by heading down to the Goldeyes Park nice and early on Canada Day! They will give you a shirt between 9:00 and 10:00 in the morning and while you wait for the flag to form and the photo to be snapped there will music and entertainment to help you pass the time.

The Forks

Where: The Forks (Under the Canopy & Scotia Bank Stage)

When: 12:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

What’s Shaking: This is another favourite spot for many on Canada Day. There are SO many bands who will be on the Scotia Bank Stage at the Forks (Mariachi Ghost, Don Amero, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra just to name a few). Over at the canopy by The Forks Market you’ll find more music and fun. Throughout the Forks look for things like a kid-friendly obstacle course, friends and family photo booth, or make a beaver puppet at the Children’s Museum! And plan to stay late so you don’t miss out on the evening fireworks!

Osborne Village

Where: Various locations in The Village

When: Thursday, 7:00 p.m. -11:00 p.m. & Friday 11:00 a.m. -11:00 p.m. and Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

What’s Shaking: Touting itself as Winnipeg’s largest and longest-running street Festival, this party happens over three days in the heat of Osborne Village, wrapping up a street festival and Canada Celebration in one! Families can visit a petting zoo, enjoy a giant pirate ship slide, hop in a giant hamster ball, and more! The Village Market will be set up with local artists selling unique crafts, soaps, spices, and more as the festival unveils it’s first ever Canada Day farmer’s market! Plus you can enjoy all the wonderful patios in the Village and many stores will be open with special outdoor, extended storefronts, for your convenience!

Assiniboia Downs

Where: Assiniboia Downs,

When: 1:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m.

What’s Shaking: Celebrate Canada Day with the ponies, and even ride them! Not the race horses, there will be pony rides for the kids as well as a petting zoo and bouncy castles all as part of the family fun day at Assiniboia Downs.

Transcona

Where: Transcona Centennial Day Square, 135 Regent Avenue

When: 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

What’s Shaking: Al Simmons brings his prop-based musical comedy to Centennial Square, headlining the Canada Day fun in Transcona! You’ll also find magicians, clowns, caricature artists balloons, face painting, and more.. There will be bouncy castles and healthy activities for kids. If you get hungry there will be a hotdog lunch (for purchase) and since the celebration wraps up at 5:00 you’ll still have plenty of time to fit in a second soiree somewhere else!

St. Norbert

Where: St. Norbert Farmers Market

When: 3:00-dark.

What’s Shaking: The St. Norbert Farmer’s Market opens at 3:00 to kick off a full day of fun. Free face painting, balloons, bouncy castle, and more begin at 4:00. Performances from hoop dancers, square dancers, Dan Flechette, Slow Leaves and more will happen throughout the day. A Canada Day ceremony kicks off 6:00 and includes free cake. Fireworks start at dusk!

Oak Hammock Marsh

Where: Oak Hammock Marsh (just East of Stonewall off Hwy 67)

When: 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

What’s Shaking: Oak Hammock Marsh is a fun place to visit any time of the year and Canada Day is no exception! Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides through the marsh and see how many animals you can spot! Want to get even closer to nature? Take a guided canoe safari through the marsh, or rent your own canoe and go on a self-guided tour! Birthday cake is served at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate Canada Day!
