I’m just going to go ahead and say it. In my house, goldfish crackers are like crack. And it’s not just my daughter.

I don’t know what it is about those cheesy little crackers but I just can’t walk away from them. And I swear my 18-month-old will perform tricks I’ve never seen her do before for just the promise of plunging her hand into that bag.

My complaint? The salt. They are just loaded down with it (and that helps make them sooooo delicious!) but the sodium intake for 1-to-3-year-old children is only 1,000 milligrams a day. 55 of those little fishies have 250 mg.

I thought the Superstore PC Little Penguins Cheddar Snack Crackers had less salt. Nope. After doing the math on 20g having 160g of salt they actually work out slightly higher!

Then in my Facebook feed comes the above video and recipe from PopSugar Moms and it’s the EASIEST THING EVER!

Even the ingredients are simple:

1 cup flour
4 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold water

Click the link to get the full recipe, though she lays it out pretty amazingly in the video.

I tried it with a whole wheat flour and it turned out great. My next step is figuring out the right mix for doing up a gluten-free version. If you’ve got one, add a link in the comments so we can check it out!

Now the only thing I need is a teeny tiny cookie cutter.
