Every year, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) gives people a glimpse at the technology and innovations that could be part of their lives in the coming months and years. Following a year like no other, CES 2021’s virtual event has a lot of tech that reimagines the way people are using their homes. For work, learning, and fun, our homes have to serve so many different functions in our lives.

Samsung’s CES event revealed several innovations that could be making their way to our homes in the not-so-distant future. Aside from better TVs and modular refrigerators, here are three cool things Samsung showed off at their CES presentation.

Jetbot 90 AI+: A cleaning robot coming soon

Samsung unveiled a first for their product line: a house-cleaning robot. The JetBot 90 AI + is a robot vacuum that can navigate through your house while recognizing objects. This image recognition helps it decide how close it should get when it cleans something sturdy (a coffee table) and how far it should stay from something fragile (a vase).

When the job is done it returns to its “clean station” and empties itself. Inside of the station, a collection container can be easily emptied into the trash with a reusable bag that lasts 2-3 months. The JetBot 90 AI + is expected to be on sale within the first half of 2021.

SmartThings Cooking: Smarter cooking every step of the way

A new service called SmartThings Cooking will help you with you with all steps of your weekly meal prep. Once you load in a few food preferences and dietary info, it can suggest a meal plan for your week. From there, you can go through the ingredients list and figure out what groceries you need, and even order them for delivery to your home. Guided videos will help you prep the meal and you can watch these on the app, or (if you have one) right on your Samsung Smart Fridge.

Smart Trainer: Smarter workouts at home

Working out at home has become a popular option following the various lockdown and COVID-related restrictions of 2020. In 2021 Samsung Health Smart Trainer will help lead you through workouts in your home. Workouts will be displayed on your smart TV and, it appears, that with the use of a camera, you can actually see yourself on screen during the workouts. This could be helpful to measure your form against the trainer so you can adjust as needed. Though, hopefully it’s a feature that you can turn off while you’re in the learning phases of the workouts (some of those poses and movements may not be graceful enough for your big screen in the early days). There is already some great service offerings in this space (Apple Fitness +, Fitbit Premium, Peloton, etc.) so it will be interesting to see how Samsung will fit in this space.

BONUS: More robots coming in the future

This article was supposed to be only three things. But let’s add one more thing that is still probably a few years off, but looks pretty cool.

Two helper robots coming someday

During their presentation, the company showed off two other robots in development. Their final form and function could change significantly before we ever see these in our homes. The Samsung Bot Care uses AI to learn your habits and help you out as a part-time assistant, and part time robot buddy. It can help you organize your day, remind you of upcoming stuff, or encourage you to take a break and play some games or exercise if it thinks you’re working too hard.

The other robot, Samsung Bot Handy, uses AI to recognize different objects and could someday help you with household chores. Loading the dishwasher, picking up laundry and other mess, or setting the table, could all be done by this one-handed robot who roams your house.

What do you think?

Are you ready for robots in your house? Personally, I have a robot vacuum and mop and they’ve been wonderful additions. But the Samsung Bots in development seem very futuristic. I don’t know what my cats will think.
