We’ve all been in the situation. A friend, coworker or acquaintance makes a comment or joke that we’re not comfortable with. Maybe it’s sexist. Maybe it’s racist. Maybe it’s homophobic. But it’s a casual joke. You don’t want to overreact. Don’t you have a sense of humour? But you don’t want to let it slide either. Because it’s not okay!

“It’s these kinds of casual jokes and the everyday language that we use that subtly help feed a culture of sexism,” Hannah Witton says in the video.

Moral Courage, in collaboration with Witton, gives some great advice about everyday sexism and how to respond to it. Her three tips are:

  1. Make it personal.
  2. Be respectful.
  3. Don’t expect immediate results.
